It is believed that the Cahuilla Indians first settled in this land approximately 2000 years ago, taking advantage of the abundance of lakes, rivers, and hot springs. In 1823 Mexican explorers made the first-ever mention of reaching the area, followed by Jack Summers, the first official European resident arriving in 1862. The city of Palm Springs began its history as the home of luxurious resorts in the early 1900s, and it continues to be an absolute hot spot for international tourism year-round with events such as Coachella, The Palm Springs International Film Festival, and many more.
